JUNIOR KEYS
In Junior Keys, for five to seven year olds, your child will learn how to play the keyboard, and at the same time will develop a rich base of important musical skills like:
- reading notes
- developing listening skills
- theory
- harmony (chord playing)
- composition
- ensemble (playing with others)
- writing skills
Music is a written language, so theory and reading activities are done from the very first lesson in an age-appropriate and entertaining way.
Junior Keys is fantastic for improving confidence, as children have the chance to do lots of performing in both class concerts and on the stage for our recitals.
As parents, you’re always seeking activities that will benefit your child’s growth and development. Junior Keys, which is tailored to early elementary students’ needs, is an excellent way to enrich your child’s life in numerous ways. Enrolling your young child in this course offers unique benefits that go beyond just learning to play an instrument.
Social Skills Development: One of the most significant advantages of Junior Keys is the opportunity for your child to develop social skills. In a group setting, children learn to interact with their peers, take turns, and collaborate. They experience the joy of making music together, which fosters a sense of community and teamwork. Sharing the space, participating in group activities, and playing simple ensemble pieces help children practice important social behaviors, such as listening, patience, and empathy. These experiences are invaluable for building strong interpersonal skills that will benefit your child in many areas of life.
Cognitive Growth: Junior Keys can also stimulate cognitive development in younger children. Playing the piano requires attention, memory, and the ability to follow instructions. In a group setting, children often engage in activities that involve pattern recognition, sequencing, and rhythm exercises, which help enhance their cognitive abilities. The interactive nature of group lessons encourages active learning and problem-solving, which are critical skills at this developmental stage.
Emotional Benefits: Music is a powerful tool for emotional expression and regulation. In a group piano class, your child can explore and express their feelings through music in a supportive environment. The shared experience of learning and playing music with others can also build confidence and reduce anxiety. Your child will feel a sense of accomplishment and pride as they progress, which boosts self-esteem and emotional well-being.
Motivation and Engagement: Group piano classes often create a motivating and engaging atmosphere. The social aspect of learning in a group can make practice and learning more enjoyable. Seeing peers progress and share their achievements can inspire your child to stay committed and enthusiastic about their own learning journey. This peer interaction often encourages children to practice more regularly and with greater enthusiasm.
Motor Skill Development: Playing the piano involves fine motor skills, such as finger coordination and hand-eye coordination. In Junior Keys, children regularly participate in fun and interactive activities that help develop these skills. They learn to use their fingers in precise ways and develop better control and dexterity. The physical aspects of playing the piano, combined with the dynamic group environment, support overall motor development.
Listening Skills: Group piano classes help children develop strong listening skills. They learn to listen to both the teacher and their peers, which enhances their auditory discrimination and concentration. Being attentive to different musical parts and sounds in a group setting improves their ability to focus and understand musical nuances.
Creativity and Imagination: Participating in Junior Keys encourages creativity and imaginative play. Children have the chance to experiment with different sounds, rhythms, and melodies while collaborating with others. This creative exploration fosters a love for music and nurtures their ability to think imaginatively.
Junior Keys offers a wealth of benefits that support social, cognitive, emotional, and physical development. The collaborative nature of these classes not only makes learning music fun, but also helps your child build important life skills. By enrolling your child in this program, you’re providing them with a rich, supportive environment that promotes growth and joy in their early years.
